There’s a very good article in MIT Technology Review about the recent Heartbleed bug that’s affecting many computer servers and Internet of Things devices. It makes the important case that any modern device that we use is both hardware AND software, and that software often has problems. Because of the nature of these devices (e.g. no simple user interface to provide maintenance) that software almost never gets updated even if the most frightening security issues are found.
That’s why tools like RouterCheck are so important and valuable, because it can help diagnose and analyze these issues.
